Every Thursday –For all hikes, meet at NMVC at 7 A.M. to form carpools.  All hikes are up in the higher country and we plan to stop for eats after each hike so plan to be gone for most of the day. Dave will lead two hikes and Billie will lead hikes.

Please email Billie at shakemat4@yahoo.com or Dave at dfrench64@cox.net if you have questions or want to sign up for the hike.  Note, Dave will not be available during the three weeks of Billie-led hikes.

August 3, 2017 Lava Tube and Veit Springs Hikes – Flagstaff

We will do 2 short hikes.  Lava Tube is a unique natural tunnel about 0.7 miles long.  Bring a head lamp or flashlight.  Total hike is about 2 miles. After that we will go up Snowbowl road for 4.4 miles to a small parking lot on the right.  Veit Springs is a 1.5 mile loop in a heavily forested area with lots of historical buildings of an old ranch site.

August 10, 2017 Rim Vista Loop – Payson

This hike is a 4.5 mile loop at elevation 7500 ft. It offers great views from the top of the rim, a visit to the Military Sink Hole (geological formation) and a nice loop back through the forest. It is relatively flat and easy.

August 17, 2017 Quartz Mountain – Prescott

This hike is a 6 mile round trip at elevation 6500 ft. It offers a nice hike through the forest, some great views and then a short climb up to the top of a mountain that is snow white with quartz.  The return trip is mostly uphill.

August 24, 2017 Nash Point – Strawberry

This hike is described on Arizona Hiking Blogspot by Mare Czinar.  The hike is located off SR 87 north of Strawberry and is along an old road at elevation 6250 to 6526. It is 5.3 miles round trip and leads to overlooks of the Fossil Springs area.

August 31, 2017 AZT 33 Shultz Pass Rd to Mt Eldon Rd – Flagstaff

This is a 5 mile hike along the Arizona Trail at elevation 7500 ft. It is a nice one way hike through the forest with modest elevation change. We will drop one car on Mt Eldon Road and proceed 4.4 miles up Shultz Pass Road to a trailhead on the left to start the hike.
