SUMMARY:NMVC THURSDAY HIKES: PALOMA PARK RIDGELINE LOOP
DESCRIPTION:Location: Paloma Park\, Peoria\, AZ \nHike Leader(s) & Contact(s): Wendy Rennert. Text at 480-206-9042 or email bsunrise80@gmail.com \nhttp://www.facebook.com/groups/NMVCHiking \nMeet Up (When & Where): 9 am at east end of Paloma Park (near the dog park) \nEstimated difficulty: Moderate (679′ E/C) \nEstimated Length in Hours: 3-4 \nEstimated Distance in Miles: 5 \nDescription: Relatively recently\, Peoria completed construction of a section of trail that connects the Ridgeline and Speckled Rattler trails\, but their trail map has not yet been updated. So there is now a very nice loop with some decent elevation gain at that park that I don’t think many people know about yet (so let’s keep it our secret\, hee hee!) There are 4 trails that form this loop (Multi use Path A\, Speckled Rattler\, Ridgeline and Crankset)\, and includes a flat/smooth and wide section\, rocky sections\, a series of switchbacks\, and sections of single track. Nice views. \nDriving Instructions: I-17 North to Loop 303 Sonoran Desert Parkway (exit # 221). Left onto Loop 303. Left on N. Lake Pleasant Parkway. Go 1 mile\, then turn left onto W. Dixileta Dr. (stop light) into Paloma Park. At traffic circle\, stay right and take all the way to the (east) end\, park by the Dog Park. There are restrooms at trailhead. Address is 29799 N. Lake Pleasant Parkway\, Peoria

SUMMARY:NMVC THURSDAY HIKES: Tom's Thumb or Marcus Landslide
DESCRIPTION:Location: Scottsdale \nHike Leader(s): Debi Quarry and Jim Devine: DQ 6025241433 or debi.quarry@gmail.com to ask questions \nhttp://www.facebook.com/groups/NMVCHiking \nMeet up: Tom’s Thumb TH at 9 am. Restroom near the TH \nApproximate Length in Hours: 3-4 \nApproximate Distance in Miles: Tom’s Thumb 5 miles 1400 feet in elevation change Marcus Landslide 4.4 miles 500 feet in change of elevation \nDescription: Unusual rock formations will be seen on this hike. It is steep for the first 1.2 miles but then opens up into a valley with a gentler grade. It is well worth the effort. Or one can do the Marcus Landslide Hike with Jim Devine. A gentle but interesting hike with a vista of sandstone formations. \nDirections: Google it for the best directions.

SUMMARY:NMVC THURSDAY HIKES: Dixie Mountain Loop
DESCRIPTION:Location: Desert Vista trailhead \nHike Leader: Susan Fournie\, Email: sm4nier841@gmail.com Phone #: 602-320-8964 \nhttp://www.facebook.com/groups/NMVCHiking \nMeet Up: 9:00 am @ Desert Vista trailhead \nEstimated Difficulty: Moderate \nEstimated Length in Hours: 2-3 \nEstimated Distance in Miles/Elevation Change: 4.6 miles with 600′ E/C \nDescription: The hike starts out on Hawk’s Nest trail for approximately .4 mile with 236′ elevation gain. It then connects to the Dixie Mtn. loop trail that is 3.8 miles and 400′ E/C. We will do the hike counterclockwise. The trail can be rocky in spots and what I call rolling in several spots. Has nice views to the east\, north and west as we loop around. There are restrooms at the trailhead. \nDriving Directions: Trailhead is just northeast of I17 and Happy Valley Road. Either take I17 and exit to the right onto Happy Valley Road and go the light at 19th Avenue. Turn left at the light and this becomes N North Valley Pkwy. Head north to W Copperhead and take a right (there is a brown sign for the trailhead); take a left onto N Melvern Trail and a quick right onto W Desert Vista follow to parking area. You can also take 7th Avenue to Happy Valley and turn at 19th Avenue – follow rest of directions to trailhead.
