SUMMARY:BOTANICAL ART PERMANENT DISPLAY: SEEDS - Foundation of Life\, Hope for the Future
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the: \n \nMany of us are familiar with the old proverb\, “From a tiny acorn a mighty oak grows.”  True\, but consider Saguaro\, King of the Sonoran Desert.  Its tiny seeds\, 1-1.5mm\, can develop into a forty-foot giant. Supporting these tiny power houses are the fruits which come in a variety of shapes and sizes providing the nurturing environment for the seeds to develop. \nCome visit the North Mountain Visitor Center (NMVC) and view an exquisite display of botanical illustrations created by members of the Southwest Society of Botanical Artists (SWSBA).  This display serves to educate us all in the variety and power of some of our Sonoran Desert plants and their miniscule foundation. \nBeautiful illustrations and descriptions await your visit!  This permanent display can be viewed every day during our open hours of operation. \n \nThe NMVC also has a permanent exhibit of scientific illustrations of plants found in the preserve\, largely illustrated by SWSBA members. Come visit soon!  NMVC is open every day from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm.

SUMMARY:NMVC THURSDAY HIKES: To Humphrey’s Saddle
DESCRIPTION:When:  Friday June 20th\, 8:00 AM  \nName of Hike: To Humphrey’s Saddle \nHike Leader(s): Debi and Steve Quarry 602524-1433 debi.quarry@gmail.com \nLocation:  Flagstaff \nMeet Up (when & where):  At the corner of Snowball Rd and 180 at 8 am. We will carpool up to the first parking lot or if the road is open to the second parking lot we will drive there. This will cut off some elevation and length.  A plus for us all.  \nAs always carpooling can be arranged if you let me know 48 hrs ahead your phone #. I will share it with anyone who also wants to carpool.  \nEstimated Difficulty: Difficult due to altitude (starting at 9\,000 feet) and a change in elevation of about 2\,500 feet  \nEstimated Length in Hours:  5-6 hours  \nEstimated Distance in Miles: 6 miles  \nDescription:  The trail goes through a lovely ponderosa forest but is rocky and has exposed roots in many spots. If you use poles bring them. We are going in June to avoid the monsoon season but bring rain gear anyway. Be sure to bring food so we can eat at the saddle where the views will be pleasant.    \nThis hike was requested by one of our members and if you are up for the challenge\, I am sure we will have fun and have bragging rights after it is done.  The hike is limited to 7-10 people so RSVP. I will start a waiting list if need be. \nDriving Instructions:  I-17 to Flagstaff\, then drive through town and turn L on 180 to Snowball Rd. \nPark on the left side of the Snowball Rd near the corner.
